For those of us who would rather not write checks in check-out lines, our Visa® Check Card represents a welcome alternative indeed.

It works just like cash (as long as your current account balance covers your purchase, you’re approved.).

All PCU debit/ATM cards now have an imbedded microchip which adds an extra layer of security when used at chip reading terminals.

For more information, please read the following EMV Debit/ATM Card FAQs.

EMV Debit / ATM Card FAQs

What is EMV?

EMV is short for European Mastercard / Visa. It indicates that the debit / ATM card has a microchip embedded in it to make your transactions more secure when used at a merchant with chip reader terminals.

PCU Visa Debit Card Microchip

How do I use it?

If the merchant has chip reader terminals, you insert your card with the chip facing up, leave the card in the terminal and follow the screen prompts to complete your purchase. If a signature is required, simply sign. Remember to remove your card once the receipt has been printed. If the merchant does not have chip reader terminals, you swipe your card the same way you always have.

Will my new EMV card still work at ATMs?

Yes, your new card will work exactly the same way as your current / old one and will have the same PIN number.

Verified by Visa

Take the Pawtucket Credit Union Visa® Check Card you already use, add a password to confirm online purchases, and you’ve got Verified by Visa®, the service that helps to ensure that only you can use your card online. Visa® always protects you against unauthorized purchases. But with Verified by Visa®, you can help prevent unauthorized purchases before they even happen.

And, since Visa® is welcomed practically everywhere, you are too – at more than twelve million locations at last count.

Your Visa® Check Card is also an ATM card, pulling double duty all over the world. In fact, it’s good for cash anytime you see Cirrus Plus, NYCE or Visa on a nearby ATM, enabling you to withdraw up to $500, balance permitting, within any 24-hour period.

With PCU’s Fraud Monitoring Service, keeping your card safe is as easy as sending a text!

How It Works:

With text fraud alerts, if our system detects suspicious activity on your card, you’ll receive a text message with details about the suspected transaction. All you have to do is respond to the text to confirm the transaction.

If you indicate the transaction is fraud, you’ll receive another message with a number to call for follow-up. If not, you’re all set. The system will mark the transaction as legitimate and you can get on with your day – it’s as easy as that.

Getting Started:

If we have your mobile phone number on file, you don’t have to do anything. It’s really that simple. If there is suspicious activity, we’ll send a text alert right away.

If you need to verify or update your mobile phone number give us a call at 877-273-5740.
